Santa Cruz Shoestring Players

2025/2026 Season

Our company has produced a variety of plays, from comedies and dramas to mysteries and musicals.

We try to bring our community new award-winning plays as well as traditional classics

so there is something new and different in every season alongside the familiar favorites!

Shoestring Summer Showcase
a selection of short plays in a variety of styles

The Shoestring Summer Showcase is the culminating performance of our new Shoestring Director’s Workshop, where seasoned Shoestring directors, crew leads, and actors mentor emerging artists from Green Valley, Sahuarita, Tucson, and neighboring communities. Through hands-on workshops, participants build skills in directing, performance, and stagecraft, then put those skills into practice by staging a collection of short plays and musicals. This summer showcase celebrates bold ideas, shared storytelling, and the joy of trying something new—filling the summer performance slot with fresh voices, big spirit, and plenty of Shoestring heart!

Anyone is welcome to join our acting workshops, and to audition for the showcase shows. Specific dates and times can be found on our Auditions page.

The Price: Directed by Adelaide Crapo

On a frigid winter night, a young mother nurses a sick child. A stranger appears at her door, asking for shelter from the cold. She takes him in, but no sooner does she close her eyes, the man and her daughter are gone. The stranger was indeed Death, and he has taken her child. The Mother races against Death, trying to reach the other shore before he does, but what price will she be willing to pay to save her daughter?

Any Body For Tea?: Directed by Neil Crapo

What could be more natural than a group of sweet older ladies wanting to meet the handsome bachelor living across the street? But how to lure him to tea? If he were a handyman they’d invent some work that needs doing, but Dennis O’Finn is a homicide detective so the pretext needs to be a bit more creative. In this hilarious romp from C.B. Gilford, we learn how far some lonely ladies are willing to go for love. Just don’t drink the tea!

Nobody Sleeps: Directed by Kara Reynolds

Nobody Sleeps is a bright and breezy farce about a quirky family and their unique interaction with a burglar. Youngest daughter Daisy offers the burglar a sandwich, and Mother asks for tips for the mystery novel she's writing. You'll be just as surprised as the burglar to find out the reason behind their lack of panic!

George Washington's Teeth
by Mark St. Germain
Directed by Susan Voorhees

With time running out to renew their lease, the women of the beleaguered New Bunion Historical Society must find creative ways to snare new members and lure visitors to their sleepy New England town. When a set of George Washington’s dentures turns up in the hands of an unexpected rival, the ladies of the society brace themselves for all-out war. Heartfelt and historic, this farce proves that our differences don’t divide us, they make us strong.

George Washington’s Teeth is produced through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

And Then There Were None
by Agatha Christie
Directed by Regina Ford

Ten strangers are summoned to a remote island. All that the guests have in common is a wicked past they’re unwilling to reveal and a secret that will seal their fate… for each has been marked for murder. As the weather turns and the group is cut off from the mainland, the bloodbath begins; one by one, they are brutally murdered in accordance with the lines of a sinister nursery rhyme about “Ten Little Soldier Boys.” One of Agatha Christie’s most foreboding tales and a masterpiece of dramatic construction, this classic play’s growing sense of dread and unfaltering tension will keep you guessing to the very end.

And Then There Were None is produced through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

The Nerd
by Larry Shue
Directed by Chad Eggen

Aspiring, talented, but unassuming architect Willum Cubbert, has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick to say that, as long as he is alive, “you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you” – so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of Willum's birthday party. But his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless “nerd” – a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. This leads to escalating hilarity and tension as Willum grapples with repaying his life debt.

The Nerd is produced through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It
by Don Nigro (and William Shakespeare)
Directed by Rae H. Williams

"The record of one company's attempt to perform the play by William Shakespeare." How do you present a Shakespeare play with a third of the actors?  A rag tag acting troupe led by a dotty old curate is tasked to perform one of Shakespeare’s most comedic plays, As You Like It.  The hilarious attempts of seven actors to impersonate all of Shakespeare’s characters make this show a zany romp through a classic.

The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It is produced through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
